DESCRIPTION OF PIECE

In A Minute was first choreographed as a 4.5 minute piece, in the winter of 2022, as a part of the aMaSSiT program through the Dance Complex and Monkeyhouse. It has since been given opportunities to grow through OnStage Dance Company’s OnStage 360, the POP Series through SomArts, and the DIY Series through the Dance Complex.

After 2 years away from dance, Tess Saoirse Liddy created this piece to explore her own mind. Losing the structure of traditional schooling, coupled with the pandemic, and her first year as a public school teacher, Tess found that she was questioning the way her mind was processing information and impeding her functioning in daily life. This piece explores the challenge of dealing with daily life tasks, while struggling to understand the way your brain is working.

Tess Saoirse Dance Company was founded, by Tess Saoirse Liddy, to create a space for dancers looking to create individualized pieces that reflect their athletic and artistic goals. By opening the space for dancers to share their comfort levels with costuming, physical touch in dance, and/or piece content, TSDC hopes to decrease the spaces where dancers feel as though in order to dance they must compromise their values in order to create, move, and perform.
