DESCRIPTION OF PIECE

Cassandra Sounds/Visions is a devised sound/theatre/visual piece about the Ancient Greek oracle Cassandra as she tries to convince a chorus of her prophecy. Cassandra fights to convey her prophecy through music and memory as she is enveloped by painful visions. Cassandra Sounds/Visions listens to Cassandra and joins her in screams, sounds, and music-making in hopes that you will hear her, too. The piece is devised by and features an ensemble that includes Ayden Courage, Liam Horne, Angela Nieves, Sofia Tazi, Jenna Benzinger/JB, and Am Wyckoff.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Am Anahid Wyckoff (they/them) is a director/guide, performer, musician, translator/poet, and teacher based in Providence, RI. Their relationship with Cassandra began with workshops they held at the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama in Oxford, under the essential mentorship of Estel Baudou and Fiona Macintosh, in collaboration with the brave and brilliant Milly Cox and eleven incredible workshop participants. They strive to create safe and open spaces that support folks in making bold discoveries. They especially treasure creating queer and trans community through theatre and crafting classrooms where young people feel empowered to create their own worlds.
