DESCRIPTION OF PIECE

One Providence Place: A Mall Musical in concert presents the songs you love alongside hilarious, never to be seen again, fringe-exclusive content!

The year is 2003. Providence Place is in its youth, only four years old and shining with promise. Deep in the bowels of this commercial complex, a group of friends carve out a secret 750 sq. ft. home for themselves, away from the prying eyes of mall security and the daylight reminder of things they would rather not think about. But what comes of letting our hurt take up too much room inside of us? Does every empty space always need to be filled? Or sometimes, is it all right to let what is hollow stay hollow? 

Loosely inspired by a true story, One Providence Place: A Mall Musical in Concert is a cabaret-style dramedy about art, grief, family, and the most carpeted mall in America.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

We are The Harpies, an independent project collective formed by three artists in the Providence area. As writers and comedians, our work has most often taken the form of improv, sketch, and musical comedy performances, bringing us to venues such as the CTC in Wakefield, Wage House in Pawtucket, the Columbus and Wilbury Theaters in Providence, the Magnet Theater in NYC, and Philly Improv Theater. We have individual experience in various sectors of the performing arts--set design, libretto writing, stand-up, and dramatic production, just to name a few--and we are thrilled to now be collaborating on One Providence Place.
