DESCRIPTION OF PIECE

"The wine we drink with our eyes flows nightly from the Moon in torrents."

So begins the haunting, whimsical reverie of poor Pierrot — the eternal, lovelorn clown — who has fallen in love with the Moon. But who is she, really? A gentle maiden shimmering in silvery light? A pale nocturnal invalid sunken in a black pillow? Or… a scimitar glinting in the sky? Pierrot isn’t so sure. The Moon can do things to the mind. No heroes, no triumphs, just a simple clown and his simple love, tinged with madness. It is a story about yearning that defies sense, and following moonbeams not to glory, but to solitude.

“Pierrot <3 Moon” is a theatrical poem in motion. It weaves poetry, movement, live music, and moonbeams into a fleeting journey through the love, lunacy, and lunar longing.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lunate is a performance group of clowns, musicians, and movers in Providence, founded by actor and improviser Lu Nathan. All of its members have trained with Wilbury Theater’s physical comedy and clown courses and workshops, and have performed on stages in the region. The word lunate means “resembling the crescent moon.”
